The Arizona Sun

When did we get so old? Sunshine. It's been in short supply around these parts so I figured I'd hop a flight to Arizona and join my family for a mid-winter re-charge. It was wonderful. I even got to spend a few hours with my bestie Sam, her husband Fred and their kiddos while knocking out a five-hour layover in Dallas. Many people buy souvenirs at the airport but I didn't need to buy anything to remember that stop...I'll just live with the embarrassing memory of getting my butt-kicked by her four and a half year old. The trip was a little difficult for me because I left Jace behind with a sick little homie -- so sick he got the boot from daycare and Jace had to take him to the doctor all by himself. Easton hates the doctor's office...and I'm sure they love having him there...so I felt super guilty, but what's new? Guilt aside it was pure bliss to be in the presence of my family for a few days. I lack the words to adequately describe how comforting it...

Dad's "Doolie Day Out"

Jace and I took a trip down to Newport, RI to visit my Dad during his break from  Direct Commission Officer Indoctrination Course at Newport Naval Station.  For those of you who don't know, my Dad joined the US Navy Reserve Dental Corps this past September and currently drills (pardon the pun) at Navy Operational Support Center Tucson. Attention! This weekend marked the halfway point of his 12-day crash course in Navy customs and courtesies, proper uniform wear, Navy command structure and all that good stuff.  Such a trip down memory lane for both Jace and me as he told us how he's currently sleeping on top of his bed (but not in the sheets) because it's made to spec and he doesn't want to mess it up and how their room was torn apart after they spent hours preparing for inspection (SAMI anyone?)! We couldn't quit chuckling and shaking our heads all weekend.  I've gotta say I never imagined I'd be buying my Dad edge dressing and teaching him tricks...
