Thinking about today's assignment was a lot of fun for me. Unfortunately, I don't live anywhere near the small town in Illinois where I grew up or I could throw a couple real doozies in here...I'm sure my girlfriends are OK with that though ;) It was a lot of fun to take a stroll down memory lane to try and figure out what I could take a photo of to represent a childhood memory. I settled on this - a photo of my bear. This bear was a gift from Santa (oh how I love that man) in 1980-something.
I've had this sucker for SO long that I honestly can't remember not having him around. I believe he was a Mistletoe Bear from Marshall Fields but it's been eons since he's had his cute little hat and actually looked white. His head's been sewn back on twice (thanks, Mom) and the reason I decided to photograph him is because there's one story that actually comes to mind every time I look at his sad little right eye...
When I was younger, and just learning about hair dryers, I got some water on his face. Being the responsible youngster I was I decided that he would greatly appreciate being dried off like just like how my parents dried my hair. I sat him up on the countertop in our bathroom, plugged in the hair dryer and aimed it at his soaked right eye...and that's when it happened...I melted the poor bear's "hair". I was distraught - tried to get a brush to brush it back to pouffy life but it was ruined. I was so sad...and left that beautiful "scar"around his eye. So that's my childhood memory for today's assignment! :)

I took a photo of my bear today too! I noticed you commented on a couple of my photos in the flickr group- I'm so glad to find your blog! My baby boy was born just a few days after your little cutie on April 25th! I'm looking forward to reading your posts and sharing our learning experiences as new moms!
ReplyDeleteBeing far away from home as well I was limited in picture options too and made me miss my childhood stuffed animal so I love reading the story of yours!
